FROM SPECTRA TO MINERAL MAPS

A set of stones is scanned with a Specim LWIR-C imager. Every pixel of the shown LWIR image encompasses a full infrared spectrum range from 7.7 um to 12.4 um. Based on the different characteristics, minerals such as quartz and feldspar spectra are clearly recognizable. Based on the spectral data, fully automated computer routines are used to perform the actual mineral mapping.
